Beneath

Where we meet.

If we’re all individuals, we’re the same. We stand on the same ground in our differences, which means we have more in common than we think. We feel the same emotions for different reasons, at different moments, in different lives. The human experience isn’t yours or mine. It’s ours.

And when we look past the roles we play, we start seeing ourselves in each other. That’s where connection lives. That’s where beauty shows up. Because you can’t have relationship without the ability to relate.

We think we know people, but think about everything we haven’t seen. Everything someone lived before we showed up. And with strangers, we’re even quicker to judge. We decide who they are from a glance, an assumption, a story that fits our perspective on life.

But the right question can prove us wrong and open someone up completely. Everyone carries a lesson. Wisdom. A set of struggles they’ve come through.

All the surface-level stuff is just waves. Beneath the waves is the calm. The stillness. The part of us that’s untouchable.

Through all we’ve been through.

That’s where I feel home.

That’s where you’re home.

Where we are all part of the same family. If we stop letting the waves drown us, we get to live from that place instead of the noise above.
